As the spearhead of our accounting operations, you will orchestrate the maintenance of meticulous financial records, drive insightful reporting, and meticulously track and document all company transactions. Collaborating closely with our fractional Controller, you'll provide crucial administrative support while also ensuring the accuracy of our database information through meticulously prepared statements.

Your impact will extend beyond day-to-day accounting functions, as you'll be instrumental in crafting reports that empower senior management to make well-informed decisions regarding upcoming projects and annual budgets, playing a pivotal role in driving the company's future growth and success.

Role Location: Ottawa, Ontario 

Responsibilities

• Type accurately, prepare and maintain accounting documents and records
• Analyze budgets and create expense reports
• Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements
• Reconcile accounts in a timely manner
• AR and AP tasks
• Daily enter key data of financial transactions in database
• Be strategic asset for upper management in the budgeting process 
• Assist teams in annual and quarterly financial planning
• Research, track and restore accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
• Inform management and compile reports/summaries on activity areas
• Examine tax policies and handle tax payments and returns
• Meet with clients to discuss confidential accounting issues
• Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g. by assets, liabilities and expenses)
• Reconcile bank statements
• Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders
• Conduct month-end and year-end closures
• Prepare documents for audits
• Advise clients on financial issues via email or phone
• Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
• Report to the COO and work to improve financial processes

Requirements and Skills

• 3-5 years of experience as a Staff Accountant or relevant role in accounting
• Degree in Accounting; CPA is a plus
• Excellent use of Excel; very good with spreadsheets
• Knowledge of an accounting information system is a plus (ie. Quickbooks)
• Attention to detail
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
• Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
• Data entry and word processing skills
• Well organized
• Confidentiality and integrity
• Bonus; familiar with our tech stack that touches this accounting role: QBO, Dext, A2X, CIN7, Shopify
